We are privileged to have internationally respected author, poet, educator and theologian the Rev. Dr. Russ Parker share his research, expertise and experience in working with dreams. Dr. Parker has a post graduate degree in Phenomenology and Theology from the University of Nottingham, U.K. in which his thesis was entitled Dreams as a Religious Phenomenon. He is the author of Healing Dreams: Their Power and Purpose in your Spiritual Life (1988) and Dream Stories: A Journey into the Bible’s Dreams and Visions (2002). In reference to his U.K. seminar A Time to Dream which explores how dreams work, Dr. Parker has said, at least we believe they contain some insight or illumination about our lives. We believe that they may have some message that is important for us if we are going to move on with a more wholesome life. Dr. Parker also presents seminars which explore ways of working with dreams using role play and psychodrama as well as praying with dreams to receive spiritual insight.
This presentation, Exploring the Healing Potential in Dreams will provide a practical, as well as theoretical perspective. It is being offered to those new to the field of dream exploration as well as those who seek to deepen their understanding of how to integrate the spiritual dimension into their dream work with clients.
Since 1995, Dr. Parker has been Director of the Acorn Christian Healing Foundation in the U.K. (http://www.acornchristian.org/). He travels throughout the world lecturing and teaching on issues related to healing, healthcare, reconciliation and transformation. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity from Columbia Seminary for his many writings, teaching ability and the scholarship evidenced in his book Healing Wounded History. Other titles Dr. Parker has authored include Free to Fail, Healing Death’s Wounds, Forgiveness in Healing and The Wild Spirit.
CEU OBJECTIVES, participants will:
- Gain an appreciation of how dreams are a normal part of self-exploration and expression
- Observe a live dream counseling session
- Establish a foundational model of working with dreams
- Experience the foundational model through small group participation
- Increase understanding of how dreams offer a resource for spiritual growth

Carol Wentling Klekota, LPCC/S has over 30 years experience in medical, counseling and ministry settings. Currently, she is in private practice where she treats clients with anxiety, trauma and abuse and providing critical incident stress management. Her years in the counseling field have led to a keen interest in addressing compassion fatigue and its relationship to clinical burnout and vicarious traumatization (secondary traumatic stress). Largely unrecognized, these conditions cost society millions of dollars in sick time, disability and staff turnover as well as the untold pain and suffering in the lives of highly trained and capable individuals, their families and organizations.
As a clinical counseling graduate of Ashland Theological Seminary, Carol is able to integrate spiritually related aspects of trauma into her work. In 2000 she co-founded Hopewood Retreat Ministries, a non-profit organization dedicated to offering opportunities for personal renewal, spiritual growth, healing, and refreshment.
In October, 2009, Carol was invited by the Promedica System of Toledo Hospitals to present, alongside four physicians, at their Trauma Conference. Her clinical presentation was very well received by the attending medical professionals.
This CEU presentation will benefit any professional who works with trauma survivors. Further, it will provide guidance for supervisors in working with their supervisees in this critical area of their professional development.
CEU OBJECTIVES:
1. Define compassion fatigue and differentiate from burnout and secondary traumatic stress
2. Explore factors that contribute to the development of these conditions
3. Identify early warning signs and “red flag” symptoms
4. Assess your personal level of compassion satisfaction, burnout and compassion fatigue
5. Discuss supervisory implications of this normal consequence of working with trauma
6. Discuss treatment options, including self-care strategies and do’s and don’ts of recovery

WHAT IS THE OSL?
The Order of St. Luke the Physician is an International, interdenominational, organisation of clergy, lay-people, and the medical profession, who are dedicated to developing the healing ministry of Jesus in local churches. The foundation of OSL is the local Chapter, which meets monthly for worship, study and prayer, and once a year offers the community a weekend healing event. There are also annual Regional conferences and a National Conference which moves around the country. Every two years an International conference is held in a different part of the world.
WHAT IS THE HEALING MISSION?
A weekend event that offers congregations, and the community, an opportunity to learn more about how God can bring spiritual, emotional and relational, as well as physical, healing into our lives today. There is also the option for prayer for these concerns, in a low-key atmosphere of worship, in which the healing presence of Jesus is experienced. Additionally, the Workshops provide opportunity for different related topics to be explored.
